Sorry, but I don’t think I’m the right person to ask. I usually don’t care that much about “established relationship”, and I often quit the story before they reach old age together… The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Gilded Cage and Go Your Own Way, but I’m sure others have many more recommendations than I do.

Any suggestions @redheadgleek , @lilyvandersteen , @klaineship2 ?

The hearing verse by adiwriting takes place over a quite long amount of time (not a lifetime though…)
Oh, and “The Sidhe” by chazzam!

Did you see this, anon?

@vasalisruth Thank you for the suggestions!

Hi,

I like a lot of different things, of course, but it’s very obvious to me that my one big trope is “getting together”, either for the first time (high school AUs) or (perhaps even better) reconciliation. Honestly, I prefer them _not being together_, but gradually developing a relationship (and then they kiss. The End.) So you won’t find that many established relationships fics here…

I also love angst, and I think most of my favourite fics features angst, especially Kurt centric angst (my love for skank!kurt has no limits). The angst regarding not being sure whether the other person returns your feelings and daring to be true to yourself (Heartstrings, Precipice, Blackbird, Story of my life), or angst regarding dealing with old problems during a reconciliation process (Hurricane, The Awakening, Platonic). I enjoy some infidelity too, but if that’s not your thing, just check my tags. I always tag “t: infidelity”

My third major thing is secret relationship. I love that trope and it always makes my stomach jittery, especially in historical AUs such as the Babyboomer!verse, In My Life I Love You More, Gilded cage or Children Behave.

Thank you for asking. If anyone has any questions about specific fics or want recommendations on a particular trope, feel free to fill my inbox. Also, if you want me to read&rec your fic, just let me know.

The Pitch

“What did you say your name was again?”

Kurt looked him up and down very deliberately, and Blaine flushed under the scrutiny. Now was not the time to get flustered just because a cute boy was checking him out – Kurt was probably trying to decide if he was crazy, that’s all.

“Blaine – Blaine Anderson,” he supplied, and pulled his own chair over to join them with a questioning look. At Kurt’s wave of assent, Blaine set his coffee down carefully as he gathered his thoughts. “I’m in the musical theater program at NYADA – I recognize both of you from campus,” he added, sparing a smile for Rachel, as well.

She leaned forward in her seat suddenly, hissing in recognition. “I know you! You did ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ for the NYADA Cares Broadway Backwards benefit last year!” she announced, clapping her hands a little in delight. “I happen to think I’d make an excellent Sandy, but I’m willing to concede that you might be a suitable gender-swapped option, if the heteronormativity inherent in the musical were to be challenged.”

“Um – thank you?” Blaine said, glancing at Kurt in mild confusion. Kurt just shrugged and rolled his eyes, as if this sort of thing were typical of Rachel.

“When you two are done dream-casting iconic roles without me,” Kurt said dryly. “Blaine was saying something about a proposition?” He lifted an eyebrow, his head taking on a flirty tilt that caught Blaine off guard for a moment.

“No! Not that kind of proposition, god, no,” Blaine said hastily. “Just – a proposal, instead.” Nope, that really wasn’t any better, he thought with a wince. “A – potential plan of action? That might help both of us out, in the long run.”

Kurt looked like he was hiding a smile in the rim of his coffee cup, but his eyes were serious as he met Blaine’s. “I’m listening. Do go on.”

Summary: Kurt is a single father just trying to make it through the Christmas season. However, when he meets, celebrity, Blaine Anderson, his world is turned upside down. If one thing is for sure, this Christmas season will change both of their lives forever.

Part 1, Part 2

“Alright guys, let’s break for tonight”

Blaine Anderson let out a sigh when he heard those words. By the end of rehearsal, Blaine was so ready to head home. He was exhausted and had never realized that working on Broadway would be so tiring. He walked over to his stuff and started packing up his things to leave.

“See you tomorrow, Blaine,” Rachel called with a wave.

“Bye!” He called back as he watched the short, brown-haired girl walk away. After, he pulled on his sweatshirt and headed for the stage door. Blaine had found that if he didn’t go out the back, the paparazzi was on him immediately. After opening the door, Blaine groaned when he saw that it was raining. He pulled his hood up over his head and headed out into the rain. His apartment building wasn’t far from the theatre so Blaine just figured he’d walk quickly rather than take a cab.

He had only made it about five minutes when he felt like he was being followed. His suspicions were confirmed when he heard the familiar clicks of the cameras behind him. “Blaine, Blaine, how you doing man?” the one paparazzi yelled after him.

“Doing fine man. Just pretty wet.” He joked, still walking as quickly as he could. Normally, Blaine had accepted that paparazzi was just a part of his new normal, but today with the rain, he just didn’t want to put up with them. Luckily, he could see his apartment building in sight.

“Blaine, can we just get one shot?” the man called.

“Not today. Maybe when we have better weather.” He answered. His doorman, Ralph was waiting for him when he got to the front door.

“Thanks, Ralph, please make sure these guys don’t follow me,” Blaine said quietly before entering the building.

“Of course Mr. Anderson,” Ralph replied. He stood in front of the door and prevented the paparazzi from getting past. Finally, Blaine felt like he could breathe. He got on the elevator and headed up to his apartment. At this point, Blaine was practically soaked and couldn’t wait until he could change into some fresh clothes. He fumbled with his key before finally getting the door open. It only took five seconds before he was attacked by a large mass of golden fur.

“Okay Maggie, It’s me! Calm down!” Blaine said with a laugh as he pushed the dog off of him. He leaned down and pet the dog until she was finally able to relax. After, Blaine headed into his bedroom and changed into a pair of grey sweatpants and a dark blue sweatshirt. His curly hair was already breaking free from the gel that normally held it down, so Blaine finished off the job and washed the rest off. “Come on Mags, let’s go get some dinner and watch some TV.” The dog followed behind her owner as he made in his way into the kitchen. Blaine got Maggie her food and then began examining the contents of his fridge, looking for something that he could consider dinner. The best option that he came up with was leftover Chinese, so that would have to do.

Suddenly there was a huge crack of thunder outside. The weather was really getting nasty outside. Maggie whined and began to cower. “Come here, girl,” Blaine said. He knew that she always got scared during thunderstorms. With his Chinese in hand, Blaine walked over and settled him on the couch with Maggie nestled into his side. He turned on the TV and settled for an episode of “Project Runway” that he had seen a few times when suddenly another crack of thunder rang out. Then, it was completely dark in Blaine’s apartment.

“Damn it…” Blaine muttered. He got up from the couch and began walking blindly through his kitchen to find some spare candles. “Ouch!” Blaine yelled as he slammed his toe into the fridge. “Stupid fridge, stupid thunderstorm…” he murmured. He found his extra candles and lit them so he’d have enough light to at least get back to the sofa. Once sitting down, Blaine looked around.

“Well, what do we do now?” he asked Maggie. The dog did not respond, but simply wagged her tail. Blaine became to run through what they had done in rehearsal that day and that made him think of his embarrassing first meeting with Rachel’s very attractive friend. When Blaine had first seen him, he thought he’d looked familiar. He figured he must have seen a picture of Kurt and his daughter on Rachel’s facebook. He opened up his phone and started going through various apps. Then, he came to his Tinder app…he had forgotten about that app. He opened it up and there under matches he saw Kurt’s picture. “What a small world…” Blaine murmured. He clicked on Kurt’s profile and looked through his pictures. He couldn’t help but smile when he got to a picture of Kurt with Clara on his shoulders. Both of them looked so happy. He clicked the message and let his thumbs linger over the keys. Should he message Kurt? He did make a fool of himself today, but…he was just so attractive. Blaine simply couldn’t help himself.

He typed, “Hey It’s Blaine from the theatre…” before quickly erasing it.

“Idiot, he met you today. He knows who you are.” Blaine murmured. Trying again he typed out “Any chance you’d be interested in getting a replacement coffee with me. I really am sorry about today.” He took a deep breath and then sent the message. He couldn’t believe he had just done that. Blaine sat on the couch in anticipation as he waited for Kurt to reply. A few minutes went by and no response.

“Whatever…He’s got a kid. He’s probably busy.” Blaine told Maggie. “Plus I was an idiot. I wouldn’t want to go out with me.” Suddenly, he felt his phone vibrate and his heart began to beat rapidly. On his lock screen was a message from Kurt.

“I think that can be arranged. Just name a time and place :)”

This fic is going to be the best, I just know it. I’m usually not much for daddy!fics, but the premises of this fic really works for me (and the kiddo seemed sweet). Also, these stupid idiots are so clumsy and awkward at flirting, what’s not to love?! Thank you Rachel for meddling.

Day One: Athlete/Snowman

AO3

If you ever asked Blaine Anderson what his favourite season was, he would undeniably repond winter. His birthday was in February, so winter had always meant celebration. But before that, it meant his favourite day of the year; Christmas. It was the one time of year that his whole family was together, with no fighting between his parents, no Cooper ignoring him to seem “cool” to his older friends. Just good food, cheesy movies and presents galore. But more than that, it meant snow. Glorious, glorious snow. Having a mother who grew up without the stuff had made Blaine appreciate it all the more, his childhood full of memories of happily building snowmen with his mom who delighted in the act, despite the wind nipping at her nose and biting into her fingers.

This year, however, Pam had started a new job and didn’t have the time to make snowmen with him. His father had never bothered, and Cooper was in Los Angeles until winter break started. Blaine decided that it didn’t matter, he was hell bent on making himself a lawn full of snowmen, or at least one big one. He bundled himself up and trekked out to his front yard to begin the arduous task of rolling snowballs.

“Aren’t you a little old for that?” a voice asked about twenty minutes into Blaine’s work, and he had to look up to see the source of the question. The typical red and white of the McKinley athletes met his eyes first, and Blaine had to swallow a gulp. He had been on the end of more than one slushie from the hands of a Titans member, along with locker shoves and homophobic taunts. Yet as his gaze continued up, he let out a steam filled breath as he saw it was Kurt Hummel, the head Cheerio and fellow Glee club member who stood before him.

“You’re never too old for a good old fashioned snowman.” Blaine replied. “Seemed a waste to let all the good snow go to waste.”

Kurt gave him a considering look, then shrugged. “When you’re right, you’re right Anderson. Do you want some help?”

Blaine was sure the shock was evident upon his face at Kurt’s offer. He and Kurt got along well, this was true, but they were not exactly close. They shared no classes, and he usually stuck with the fellow Cheerios during glee practise while Blaine stuck with Tina and Sam. But this had not stopped Blaine from admiring Kurt from afar. Kurt was handsome, smart, a great singer and very openly gay. But he was sure that Kurt hadn’t spared him more than a second look unless they had to sing a group number together. Yet looking at Kurt now, he saw a faint pink to his cheeks that Blaine wondered was due to the cold or Kurt’s own bashfulness.

“You don’t exactly seem dressed for it.” Blaine said, gesturing to Kurt’s Cheerio jacket “Why are you even out in this cold without a proper jacket?”

“Was running errands, and this jacket in a lot warmer than it looks. Now, hand me a snowball so I can start on the head.” Kurt replied, smiling at Blaine.
Blaine momentarily thought about chucking a snowball ay Kurt’s head, but figured that would win him no points, so instead they worked together, occasionally humming a carol together, sometime even breaking out into song and then giggles. Before too long, a snowman stood before them, Blaine lacing an old scarf around its neck, and Kurt adding buttons for its face.

“That was fun. You were right, snowmen are great at any age.” Kurt said, his face now red from the wind, but his smile betraying his joy. “But it’s pretty cold out…”

“Do you want to come in for some cocoa and a cheesy Christmas movie?” Blaine asked, bravado finally winning out. Kurt smiled and held out his hand, for Blaine to take, and as he pulled Kurt towards the house, wondered if he could get Kurt under the mistletoe his mom had hung in the foyer. When Kurt left later that day, Blaine couldn’t tell you what move they ended up watching, but he could definitely recall the taste of Kurt’s lips, and their vow to keep making snowmen together for as many winters as they could.

I would give my left arm for an unlimited supply of athlete/cheerio!kurt, no doubt. This one was really good sweet, perhaps we’ll get a follow-up later on?

Klaine Advent: Day 1 – Athlete/Snowman (Ao3)

Kurt hadn’t been expecting the cameras.

All the seniors at Parsons got together in central park after the first big snowfall of the year to have a snowman making contest. All the design students likes to blow off steam and design something fun instead of stressful for a change. It was a tradition as old as the school itself, or so the legend went.

Kurt had been looking forward to it since he was a Freshman, doing practice snowmen and making sketches to make sure he had the best snowman of his class. Now that the moment was here, he wasn’t disappointed. He had his tools, his props, the snow was the perfect consistency. Everything was going as planned.

But who invited the news cameras?

“Thanks, Bob. I’m here in Central Park with Jack Califano, alumnus and guest judge for this snowman competition. Well, Jack, do we have a winner?”

This skinny hipster looking guy with the longest eyelashes Kurt had ever seen smiled dorkily at the camera. “We do!” He bounced a little on his knees. Kurt would find him cute if he’s never spoken to him. “The winner of this year’s senior snowman competition is Kurt Hummel!”

Kurt blinked, feeling dully as his friends and classmates patted him on the shoulders.

He was happy to have won but, welp, the camera was on him now.

“Congratulations, Kurt Hummel! Is this your snowman?”

Kurt nodded, pulling himself together with a grin. “Thank you, and yes! This is Blaine Andersnow.”

Sorry that this blog has been a bit out of the loop lately, but to compensate, I’ve decided to read and rec every single Klaine advent 2018 fic, starting today. I’ll be tagging them “#t: klaine advent 2018” (very creative, I know.)

I’m so impressed by all of you wonderful authors who still write klaine fanfic, and I want to thank you all for participating – even if you end up posting one or twenty-four this advent. I love everyone in this bar.

As there seems to be quite a lot of multi-chapter fics this Klaine advent, I’ve decided to rec the fics like this:
All oneshots are posted as we go. All multichapters are posted once when I start reading, tagged #t: WIP, and then I’ll write a more complete rec with all of my regular tags when I’ve finished the entire story in the end of December. Hope that sounds okay.

poorlittleklainer:

Hey guys, this is my first time doing advent, so I’m returning to the universe of my first fan fiction: Love and Fame. Set after the story but before the epilogue.

I wake up that Christmas Eve laying in my old bedroom, with Blaine cuddled tight against my body and his head on my chest. I grin down at him, reaching up to start playing with his hair, a thing I know that he loves. I lay there underneath him, looking up at the ceiling, smiling to myself. School’s been hard, NYADA is the most prestigious dramatic arts college for a reason after all, but despite all the challenges I’m facing at school, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. I glance down at Blaine against my chest, okay, I do like it right here. With a quick glance at the clock, I realize I have to get up in order to start making breakfast.

“Blaine, wake up,” I whisper softly, gently shaking him. He groans and instead of waking up moves towards me closer. I sigh, he’s become even more of a cuddle whore since I moved to New York and we could spend nights together easier.

“Blaine, we gotta make breakfast,” I tell him. Blaine mumbles and grumbles, but lets go of me so he must be awake now. I smile as I get out of bed, wearing a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt that’s been passed around between the two of us so much I honestly don’t know if it’s even mine or if it’s Blaine’s anymore. I walk to my closet and grab some slippers, knowing the tile in the kitchen is going to be freezing cold.

“Come on, I’ll let you pour the chocolate chips,” I grin, and Blaine looks up from his spot on the bed with a sleepy smile. We head downstairs and start cooking breakfast for everybody. As usual, both of us manage to stay quiet only until halfway through cooking, which is about when the coffee kicks in.

“You remember Christmas two years ago? The first one we had as a couple?” Blaine suddenly speaks up. I look over and smile at the memories. I was still in high school, and he was visiting from New York. It was the first time I had ever let some else help me with Christmas Eve breakfast, a tradition that used to just be me and my mom.

“Of course I do,” I tell him. Of course, I also remember the terrible Christmas Day where he was disowned by his parents, but Blaine looks so happy, he must not be thinking about it. Good, he tries to tell me differently, but I know there are still some days when he remembers the hatred his parents felt towards him. When he remembers that he will probably never be able to talk to his parents again because they hate him just because of who he loves.

“What was the song we sang again?” Blaine scrunches his nose in the adorable way he does whenever he’s thinking about something, “oh yeah! Baby It’s Cold Outside!” He grins, and I roll my eyes as he starts dancing around, humming the tune of that song by himself.

“Is that your subtle way of asking me to sing with you? Because you know that I’m always okay with that, right?” I laugh, and Blaine turns back to me. He glances outside, where it snowed sometime last week here and I notice his attention on the melting snowman in the yard across the street. And of course, that’s when he turns around and starts singing Frosty the Snowman.

And of course I have to join in.

We both laugh as we finish singing the song to each other, and I pour the last of the pancake batter on the griddle just as Carole and Dad walk downstairs, closely followed by Finn.

“You guys are just in time! Breakfast is almost done,” I tell them, standing from my post as Blaine carefully sprinkles the chocolate chips into the batter of the pancake in front of me. I watch as everyone heads for the coffee pot, and then grabs plates. I finish the pancakes quickly, and then everybody is getting their breakfast. Blaine hands me a plate, and I smile my thanks at him.

“I love you,” he whispers. I don’t think my heart will stop fluttering at those words, even after all this time dating. My smile widens and I lean in to gently kiss his lips, mindful my parents and stepbrother are in the same room.

“I love you too,” I whisper back. He grins and starts gathering his own breakfast, and I watch my family interacting with each other for a moment. They have long gotten over the shock of who Blaine is, and I grin as I see him and Finn laughing at something. And then I realize Finn’s at the pancakes as I should probably move to go get some before he finishes the stack.

Look, it’s a WIP! I can’t believe we’re getting so many stories this Advent, some oneshots and a lot of multichapters. And especially thank you, poorlittleklainer, for dipping your toe into writing Klaine for the first time. I’m so happy that there are still new writers starting to contribute to this fandom, years after the show ended.

I really like the content-ness of this epilogue, it’s really promising for what’s to come (even though there’s a long way to go). I’m very excited to read this one, even if it’s in first person POV which I haven’t read in years.
